Nail Art Trends

Nails are all the buzz this summer they’re fun, easy to do and they’re new fashion accessories. Take your look effortlessly from work to play to everywhere in between with these top 5 nail art trends of the summer.

Bright Neons

Neons are the shade of the season. If you’re not ready for blue hair like Katy Perry, painting your nails in neon shades is the next best way to accessorize with neon colors. Dip all 10 of your tips in these brights for an instant ‘pop’. They’re a great way to accent an all-black or basic outfit or add a splash of color to an open-toe heel or sandal.

Mix and Match

Want colorful, pretty nails but don’t have the time for a complicated design? Mismatched nails are the essential cheat for manicures. Add variety to your nails by painting them in different colors. This look works great with similar polish shades like pastels, brights, nudes, or a gradient of shades of the same color or color group. The possibilities are endless and will take you no time at all.

A Twist on the French Manicure

The classic French manicure is a nail design staple that never goes out of style. Take a modern spin on it by switching up the colors. The modern French mani grew popular with designers like YSL giving it their own twist, and became a hit again with Lana Del Rey’s Vogue UK shoot. This with the help of French manicure tip guides, or use a nail striper if you’re confident about doing it freehand. For Del Rey’s V-shaped nail tips, use stationery tape to form a sharp V on your tips and paint the uncovered parts in a bold color.

High Shine

Bling is in this year, and the best part is there are so many different ways to wear it. For a glamourous night out, polish on Deborah Lippmann’s Happy Birthday nail lacquer. If you want a more subtle shine that is good for everyday wear, try a dark color infused with just the right amount of glitter like Orly’s Androgynie (my personal favorite). To quickly update your mani for a night out, paint a coat of clear glitter nail polish over your existing nail color. Even a few swipes over the tips instantly glams up the look.

Tribal and Aztec Prints

These trippy, multi-colored prints have invaded our wardrobes and are here to stay on our nails. You can’t go wrong with the tribal print. It’s versatile, attention-grabbing and so much fun to DIY. Although they look complex, many tribal designs can be done using a nail art brush/nail pen and some regular polish. Use your nail color of choice as the base and add on tribal accents with your nail brush/pen. I’ve put together some of my favorite designs here and here.
