Taking a holiday in Cuba is like no other.  Forget the stereotype beach holiday – although Cuba does have some of the most beautiful beaches in the world – and step into a way of life that is so different from anything you have experienced before.

Vibrant music, a unique Afro-Latin culture, an atmosphere that will leave you spellbound and we still haven’t mentioned the 1950s cars that cough and splutter their way around the island.  With so much to see and do in Cuba, online tour operators such as On the Beach, recommend that you organize your car hire while booking your holiday, to be sure of getting something somewhat newer!

An absolute must to visit is the capital Havana, as this is where you can absorb the true Cuban heritage.  The Spanish colonial architecture is beautiful and the faded splendor will astound you as much of it has been left untouched since it was built.  Everywhere you go in Cuba you will hear the Latin beat of the Salsa; no matter whether it is coming from a pavement cafe or an old-fashioned valve radio.  Travel companies such as On the Beach suggest that you visit one of Havana’s live music bars, where you can enjoy the music first-hand and even get up and have a dance.

Wander down the Calle Obispo – filmed in many movies – and browse in the old-fashioned shops.  Until you reach the Plaza de Armas where there are many fine buildings. Cuba’s oldest building is the Castillo de la Real Fuerza and don’t miss the Castillo de la Punta.

Another great place to visit is Trinidad, where you will be enchanted by the cobblestone streets, lined with colorful houses.  The people are amazing and will make you very welcome.  Perhaps try some of the local food while enjoying the incredible sea views.  Move on to Soroa/Vinales where you will discover the natural beauty of waterfalls and orchard gardens, all nestling in a lush, green valley.  Visit the tobacco plantations where the leaves for the famous Cuban cigars are produced.

Another must see, according to travel specialists such as On the Beach, is Cienfuegos – also called the ‘Pearl of the South’.  This is a wonderful city which was designed by the French, so is quite unique to Cuba, but it also has a distinct Caribbean vibe about the place.

Holguin is very popular with visitors and was described by Christopher Columbus in 1492, as “the most beautiful land eyes have ever seen”.  Stunning beaches, lagoons and little coves are nestling beside rugged mountains.  If you enjoy diving, then Holguin is a must as the underwater scenery is quite unique.

Cuba has many stunning beaches, but the most popular is Varadero.  The pristine sparkling sands and the crystal clear waters are all you could ever want.  You can also take the short trip to the virtually untouched island of Cayo Santa Maria if you really want to get away from it all.
