Tips on Finding a Pet-Friendly Resort

Pet-Friendly Resort

Pet-Friendly Resort

Let’s face it, we all need to get away from it all every now and again. We all need to escape the trials and tribulations of work and home. To be somewhere where we can relax amidst a stunning change of scenery. To let someone else do the dishes for once. But let’s not forget that our furry friends need a break every now and then, too. And when we go away without them it can be stressful (not to mention expensive) kenneling them. If only there were some way that the whole family could enjoy their holiday together- two and four legged alike.

Fortunately, there are many hotels and resorts all over the country (and indeed the world) that will allow you to bring your canine companions with you on your jollies. But be wary, because while some hotels may admit pets that doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re completely pet friendly. The last thing you want is to take your pet anywhere they might be considered a nuisance or treated like an inconvenience.

With that in mind, here are some tips on finding a truly pet-friendly resort…

Make sure you Pack Plenty of Essentials

As pet friendly as your hotel may be, it’s essential to take steps to ensure that your pet feels comfortable. Our pets are territorial creatures and may need some of their own creature comforts to help them feel relaxed and at home in their new environs. Familiar food is a good place to start. Be sure to pack plenty of their favorites from collections. You should also bring familiar scent articles like blankets, toys and other items which have their own familiar scent all over. Pet friendly hotels might have many other pets in residence. These familiar items will help them to feel relaxed and at home away from home.

Make sure there’s Plenty for Pets to do in the Surrounding Areas

As much as your pet may enjoy some time spent snuggling up together in your room, they’ll also likely want to get out and enjoy the great outdoors in their new surroundings. Before you commit to booking, make sure that there’s plenty of awesome places for walkies nearby and pet friendly pubs where you can stop to enjoy a bite to eat in the bar without needing to leave your poor pooch outside.

Ask if Your Pet Gets free Run of the Place

Make sure the resort in question allows pets to venture outside the room. You wouldn’t want your poochy pal getting cabin fever. While pets are rarely allowed in the dining areas (for health and safety reasons), a truly pet-friendly hotel or resort will leave them free to roam the majority of the place.

Ask What Amenities they Offer Pets

This is something that separates the pet-friendly from the pet-tolerant. Truly pet-friendly hotels will have clean-up areas where dogs can wash their muddy paws after a long walk, or bowls of water throughout the resort where they can quench their thirst. Some will even have welcome packs just for your four legged friends featuring snacks or bedding or a map of great nearby walking routes.
