Flight Ticket Airports

One of the most overlooked areas when searching for cheaper airfares is the choice of airport. I came across this little air saver quite by accident when I was flying from the US to London, England. I always use the same hotel when I visit England.

You know what it is like when you enjoy a hotel and feel comfortable with the rooms, meals, location etc then it makes sense to go back there. Why risk choosing another hotel in London when you know what type of service standard you can expect from one you have stayed in before.

The nearest London airport to the hotel as the crow flies is Heathrow which if you have ever been there you will know it is one of the busiest in the World. So in the past I have always booked to fly into Heathrow airport and then get a taxi to the hotel. The last time I booked the flight I could not get the connecting flight to Heathrow to match up with my hotel reservation so I had no option but to switch.

I had the alternative of choosing either Gatwick or Stanstead. After doing a little research online I discovered that it was far cheaper flying into these other two airports than it was flying to the nearer Heathrow.

Even when you take into account the additional expenses of the taxi it still worked out that I had saved over $100. The taxi journey took slightly longer of course but with an extra $100 in your pocket I really did not mind.

If you go online searching for cheap airfare then don’t forget to look at neighboring airports as an option to save you money. If you are flying to New York have a look at the New Jersey airport option. With some airports there are cheap train journeys that will take you back closer to your destination. All of this can be booked online so there is no problem with locating the connection to get you nearer to your destination.

Flying into neighboring airports to save on airfare may not be to everyone taste and much would depend on your circumstances. If you are travelling with children or the elderly then it is sometimes better to pay the normal air price. But if you are travelling alone or with a companion then why not look into this airfare saving option.
